MotionHut Award winning Film & Video Makers

Digital imaging, the new breed of cinematography

Our role as the digital imaging technician was to take care of all the technical aspects of digital video capture in production - managing the video pipeline as it travelled from camera to card, and preparing it before it headed to the edit suite.

We worked closely with the remote producers, directors and other cinematographers to ensure that their shots were perfect, providing further technical support for the on-set video livestream.

As the digital imaging technicians for Nike Kids’ PLAYlab production, we provided our specialist Digital Imaging Services for digital capture, management, and manipulation of images. We were involved in all aspects of the production process from pre-production to post-production, and had extensive knowledge of the entire workflow.

Digital imaging, a vital component of the production team’s armoury

MotionHut’s digital imaging services can be used with a variety of camera formats, as well as the software for ingesting, logging and managing data. We marry this technical expertise with our strong organisational skills, which are necessary for keeping track of all the data that is generated during production. Now, more than ever, digital imaging services are becoming a vital component of the production crew’s armoury.

There are many reasons why people choose to enroll in online courses, but one of the most important is the convenience. The Production Guild of Great Britain has developed a Virtual Learning Environment for its members; with it's membership cohort scattered far and wide on many a HETV or Feature Film production, often on location the far reaches of the land, one of the main benefits that comes with an online course or program is that you can work on your studies at any time, from anywhere. Studies have shown that when video content is used in an educational setting, students learn more and retain the information better. This is because when we watch a video, our brains are actually working harder than when we read text. We not only see and hear the information, but we also process it visually and auditorially. This multi-sensory approach helps us learn and remember the material better.

H5P is a content creation tool that makes it easy to add interactive multimedia content to your website. It's perfect for use in educational settings, as it allows teachers and students to create and share videos, quizzes, and slideshows. H5P content can be used to supplement traditional teaching methods, or it can be used as the basis for an entire online course.

Featuring television presenter and former Blue Peter presenter Ayo Akinwolere, along with interviews and personal testimonies from local residents, the documentary explores the history of African and Caribbean people in Kent. Filmmaker Helen Curston, who has worked for nearly 14 years for the BBC within current affairs and documentaries, and is Senior Lecturer in Television Production at University for the Creative Arts, said: “as part of the Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Black History Live’ project, it aims to develop a better understanding of the diversity of the Kent region, highlighting important untold stories from Kent’s multi-cultural history.”

Having premiered at the Chatham Historic Dockyard in early October as part of Black History Month, and forming part of an installation piece, Helen adds: “The project seeks to influence viewer’s experience and understanding of hitherto untold narratives and histories from both high profile and less well-known figures – it will raise the profile and awareness of Kent’s black history and to connect communities with a shared history of the area.

"Viewers are able to learn more about these stories through expert and personal testimony, of both ancestors of these figures and volunteer researchers and young actors who have engaged with the wider Black History Live project. It will challenge established notions of Britain’s history by highlighting the contribution of Kent’s Afro-Caribbean population to the arts, culture, politics and other aspects of socioeconomic development, challenging racial and cultural stereotypes.”

The project "ONE®" comprises of a distinctive network of classical symphony orchestras active since 2004, which has been supported by the EU through the Culture and Creative Europe Programmes from 2005 on. Over the years, it has demonstrated a track record of achieving significant results in artist mobility, intercultural dialogue across borders and capacity building. We have been lucky to have a continued partnership with the ONE® project and demonstrating it's reach and impact to the commission, investors and partners as well as it's expansive network of collaborators and participants. We have created films which explore the impact and positive outcomes of the Orchestra Network for Europe programme, including the covering development of the award winning animated film "Red & The Kingdom of Sound", and it's immersive live performances in Abbeville and Amiens, France.

In 1945, when English composer Benajamin Britten wrote Young Persons Guide to The Orchestra he wanted to introduce young people to the world of classical music. Some 70 years later, CG animation filmmakers from University For The Creative Arts in Rochester are bringing his work firmly up to date. "Red & The Kingdom of Sound" is the 17 minute animated musical adaptation of Britten's piece.

"Red & The Kingdom of Sound" has gone on tour around Europe, with live performances of the film taking place in France, Germany, Poland and more. Children from local schools are invited to the theatres to experience the film.

Our companion documentary explores the creation of the film, and features interviews with the director, production designer and animators. "Red & The Kingdom of Sound" is at it's heart an educational tool, and with that comes our making of documentary. It is planned that it too will travel to schools around Europe to be used in educational institutions for children to learn about the film, how it was made, and the music behind it.

The project was co-funded by EU Creative Europe Programme, and our documentary film also serves as a presentation tool, demonstrating to executives how the programme is being utilised by the institution and how it delivers on its remit.

The film took us to the premiere performance of "Red" in Abbeville, France. We interviewed acclaimed conductor Arie Van Beek, chief conductor of Orchestre De Picardie, who performed the live music to the piece and we also gain an invaluable into classical music ourselves along the way. "Red" has gone on to win numerous awards, and has screened at film festivals worldwide.

The documentary is made up of many different elements that MotionHut offers within its service portfolio. These include documentary video production, live music recording, educational video production, video editing and motion graphics.
